A Good Start to the New Year: Normal Politics Resumes

The United States Senate kept working, making compromises, doing the ordinary business of governing, and passed a bill.  At 2 in the morning, New Year's Day.  And an 89 - 8 vote means that it was a bipartisan effort.

This is the best present the Congress could give the country.

If we can get the House of Representatives to follow suit, we will have taken our government back from the intransigents.

2013 could be an excellent year for improving public order in the United States.

Is it a good deal or does that matter?

How does all new revenue with no spending cuts benefit this country? We don't have a revenue problem, we have a government with a spending problem. This again only kicks the can down the road. Blame the Republicans all you want but shame on the Democrats for their out of control spending.

Yes, spending is a problem, but let's not forget our dear Republican contribution of 2 wars, including one started under false pretenses, that bloated our military spending. Cut our military by 25% and our economy would be fine, domestic spending is peanuts compared to our defense spending, so I say cut the hell out of the Pentagon.

Go ahead with your false pretenses but everyone agreed at the time that Hussein had WMD. Hindsight is 20/20. Go ahead and cut some of our military spending but don't be blind in the fact that the federal government has its nose in way too many programs that it has no business being in. It can't do any job better than the private sector and it should stop trying! Education, health care, postal - they are good at none of it and are just dragging us down.
