Obama: What I Don't Like

The rest of my posts from now to the election will be what I do like about Pres. Obama.

Today I want to start with what I don't like.

He didn't close Guantanamo Bay prison.

He assassinates American citizens with a thin veneer of due process.

He spies on American citizens with a slightly thicker veneer of due process.

He has not prosecuted the Wall Street barons who created the financial crises quickly enough.

He has too many Wall Street veterans in charge of economic policy.

There are also some compromises he made that I am uneasy with, though they may have been necessary to get the deal done.  This is especially true for the health care bill and the budget compromise.

What would he have to do to lose your vote?

In favor of whom?

Agreed on all counts. The old saw is that you campaign in poetry and govern in prose. Still I'd like to hear some poetry out of the guy again.

Sweet talk does not a President make.

You make it sound as if every law-abiding (and almost all non-law-abiding) citizens are at daily risk of being gunned down on the streets on the President's orders. The "American citizens" who got it in the neck were either people who were bound and determined to do us harm, or they were hanging around with people who were of the same persuasion. Getting blown away because you are the driver for a terrorist is an occupational hazard. No tears from me on this one.xixplea 10

Funny, those are the reasons I like the president. And I'm a centrist too.

How about the teen-age son of a terrorist, target separately weeks after his father was killed, who had not seen his father in years and was not himself active in any terrorist organization.

Or how about the fact the kill list is secret and, in most cases, not justified even after the fact.

Law-abiding is in the eye of the drone-holder if their are no checks and balances.

Actually, I was responding to your assertion that "He assassinates American citizens with a thin veneer of due process." You have now changed the discussion. There are two absolute rules of war. Rule 1-Peoplke will die. Rule 2-You cannot change rule 1. People in the combat zone are more likely to be killed. This has happened since before recorded history. The sins of the father are visited upon his sons. as we said in my war, "Sorry about that."

That being said, I'll respond.

"How about the teen-age son of a terrorist, target separately weeks after his father was killed, who had not seen his father in years and was not himself active in any terrorist organization."

Or so it is said...And Gitmo is full of innocent men, as is every prison or jail I have ever visited as an attorney.

"Or how about the fact the kill list is secret and, in most cases, not justified even after the fact."

Oh, heaven forbid that we keep military secrets. And if it is secret, how do you know the names on the list are not justified?
