Keith Olbermann, the vitriolic liberal commentator on MSNBC, criticized Jon Stewart and the Rally to Restore Sanity as naive for criticizing cable news, left and right, as equally culpable for spreading fear and anger.
However, Olbermann later decided to drop the "Worst Persons in the World" feature of his show.
We may hope for a similar step to "take it down a notch" from the vitriolic conservative commentators on Fox.

If I accidently [or for amusement] watch either Fox or MSNBC I have to watch the other an equal amount of time so my disgust for both is balanced.
All the major networks plus CNN and MSNBC lean left, which leaves Fox as the lone right leaning news channel. Thank goodness for that small amount of balance.
IMO, Anne Coulter is the only vitriolic voice in Fox, and she isn't on very often.
NPR for the win. Although their journalists are more left-leaning, I have heard some of the most objective reports about the Tea Party movement on their news programs, mainly because they try not to paint them in a certain light, unlike MSNBC or FOX.
Also, BBC is good as well

Name the commentators on Fox that are as vitriolic as Keith O.and Ed S. Both are literally spitting mad.
Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly.
Glenn Beck o.k. but not O'Reilly and another spitter I forgot to mention, Dylan Ratigan. I challenge you to watch the O'Reilly show. If you think he is vitriolic I think you have not actually watched a whole show but only seen excerpts and that is not a fair hearing.
I actually think Hannity is the worst apologist and huckster of them all, followed much further down the list by Olbermann. Glenn Beck might be kooky and not really care if he's correct or not, but at least he seems to believe what he says (the real problem is that other people believe what he says). Hannity just seems to get his show directly from the RNC.
As for all the networks being left leaning and Fox just being there to balance, that's just a silly trope conservatives always repeat to play victim. Political culture is certainly good at truthiness from repetition. By the way, did you hear how much Obama's trip is going to cost????

O'Reilly is sometimes vitriolic, but he is mostly bombastic.

I watch MSNBC and Fox. Have you EVER watched a full hour of The Factor? Please don't be evasive.
I just watched "the Factor" as research. It is not very satisfying as a news analysis show because there is too much O'Reilly, and not enough of the people he invites because they know or do something different from him. I think "Hardball" has a similar problem. O'Reilly does sometime rant, which Chris Matthews rarely does.
What I really don't think is helpful is the tone of contempt for the other side, whether that is shouted or sneered.
