Showing the Religious Flow


Michael Bell made a fantastic chart of religious mobility, based on Pew Religion Forum data. It is lovely to ponder.

So if you start out as a black protestant, you stay a black protestant.
That, to me, is the most interesting section of the chart... I wonder if that's because of the inherent appeal of that section or because of a sense of inaccessibility to the other demographic bits.

I think black Protestants are most likely to stay in that group because the church becomes part of their African-American identity.

I think one of the interesting flows is from Other to None, and None to Evangelical. I believe this is a generational sequence.
