Ground Zero Mosque - Yes

I think having a mosque near Ground Zero is as normal and American as having any of the churches, synagogues, or other places of worship that are already there.

To have a Muslim center that is explicitly aimed at promoting peace and understanding between Muslims and others is a particularly good thing.

I don't really think any of this really needs saying. Alas, it does. So, as a Christian and a patriot, yes, please, build a dialogue-oriented mosque near the former World Trade Center site.

I wonder how many people who are up in arms know that there's also a mosque -inside- the Pentagon?

Yes Victoria, let us justify a bad idea with a previous bad idea.

I don't see how raising a huge fuss over a mosque from a group that wants a huge fuss to be raised and to feel victimized (not referring to Muslims in general but the group specifically seeking the mosque) isn't giving them exactly what they want.

American culture is a melting pot, and a mosque is only as offensive as we choose to make it be. Do I approve of the lobbying group and their aims? No. Do I disapprove even more of how everyone has jumped on the exact bandwagon they wished for? Yes.

These Muslims see us as chumps. They have no respect for our values. This Imam does not advocate tolerance, he laughs at it. Research him, you will see.

As I said, I disapprove of the particular group pursuing this plan.

What I am saying is that it's our own attitudes that have the potential to turn the act into an act of tolerance or "cultural terrorism" in this case.

My other point is that when you say "our values" - whose values? America's values? What are those, that relate to every American, and more importantly, how are those directly oppositional to Muslim values?

Sharia law. They do not believe in the separation of church and state. I think most Americans still agree about that. And cultural terrorism, please.

Read moderate Muslim Raheel Raza for more.

Feisal Abdul Rauf, the project’s imam, wrote a book called What’s Right with Islam Is What’s Right with America. But as former prosecutor Andy McCarthy points out, it was published in Malaysia under the more pungent title A Call to Prayer from the World Trade Center Rubble: Islamic Dawa in the Heart of America Post-9/11 (dawa is Islamic proselytism). A noncommercial edition was published by two organizations that have ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and promote Hamas.

Victoria. There is no mosque in the Pentagon, FYI.

I think a multicultural site of worship would be very appropriate for the World Trade Center.

Sharia law is antithetical to democracy. No victory mosque at ground zero. Funding is extremely suspect. Time will tell.
