The Highest Status Group in the World

"The Elders are an independent group of eminent global leaders, brought together by Nelson Mandela, who offer their collective influence and experience to support peace building, help address major causes of human suffering and promote the shared interests of humanity."

And who does Nelson Mandela call together to make the world better, using nothing but their personal charisma and the bully pulpit?

Do you consider these guys centrist? Who would the conservative elders be? Jimmy Carter single handedly gave us the Iran we know today. Peace building indeed!

This list is missing Morgan Freeman.

And Barak Obama.

I don't consider them centrists, nor do they bill themselves that way. Who the conservative counterparts would be is an interesting question - perhaps Kissinger?

Morgan Freeman is not, technically, God. (Same for Alanis Morrisette).

Barack Obama has a day job that keeps him busy.

@Olga,

I'm pretty sure the Shah and the Ayatollah and the crowds in the streets did more than President Carter alone to make Iran what it became. And also pretty sure the President Carter learned a brutally hard lesson about studying first and commenting second on any international issue.

I'm not so sure you're right on the former, though I have been convinced on the latter's lack of deity.
