The President's bill is in line with decades of Democratic Party attempts to make sure every has health insurance. I don't see in this debate a claim that the social order is under urgent threat.

Cap and trade is also part of a long, bipartisan, even wonky attempt to limit pollution. It is true that some people who support cap and trade believe that global warming is an urgent threat, but cap and trade long predated the global warming debate.

I think you may be reading something into "authoritarian" that is not what Hetherington and Weiler are talking about.Gruntledhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14377809238377382438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16201378.post-27238428252309726072010-02-24T19:55:19.268-05:002010-02-24T19:55:19.268-05:00So is Cap and Trade.

That they are against the current elected officials does not mean that they are against authority; they want different leaders in power.

I think the fact that they are willing to give up civil liberties, including habeas corpus, bans against torture, and bans against spying on citizens, to give the state all power, proves it.Gruntledhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14377809238377382438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16201378.post-362104755329638232010-02-24T10:49:47.970-05:002010-02-24T10:49:47.970-05:00I look forward to seeing more posts on this.
